Feature Friday – 4 Fabulous Senior Hounds Looking for Love

Posted by Righteous Hound on 7th Nov 2014

In honor of Adopt-A-Senior Dog month we are featuring 4 fabulous Seniors from the Basset Hound Rescue of Georgia looking for love and a forever home.

HotRod is a gorgeous, 9-year-old gentleman from BHRG. HotRod was dumped at the shelter in Lowndes County. Thanks to Pilots N Paws, this boy will now be able to find a forever family. He is a happy and loving hound who is doing well in his foster home. He is quiet and has found that the couch and the people bed are very good places to be. For a boy that has been living outside, learning housebreaking has been challenging although he is trying hard. He is also working on gaining some weight and getting healthy. He is getting care for several infections that he has probably had for a long time. He will need eye drops daily to help with dry eye, but he doesn't mind those drops too much. He is a very sweet, easy-going hound that would do best with a family who loves all the basset hound traits. He gets along with other dogs, but he has not been around cats or kids. Watch my video!

Olivia is an 8-year-old, tri-colored girl who came to BHRG from the shelter in Lowndes County where she was found as a stray. She has been treated for an abscessed tooth and completed treatment for heartworm. Olivia is friendly, smart, very affectionate and enthusiastic. She is housetrained with a dog door and is working on crate training. She gets along with other dogs and cats too! Olivia is up-to-date on shots, spayed, healthy, and ready to be adopted. She has a healthy appetite, is very intelligent and is easy to teach. Olivia enjoys playing other dogs. She is healthy and ready to find a forever family.

Norton is an 8-ish year-old fellow came to BHRG from the shelter in Barrow county where he was found as a stray. He is so sweet, he loves to cuddle and will sit with you and on you for hours. If you are standing up he will come in front of you and flop over and whine for a good belly rub. He also loves to "give you five" as he throws up his one paw for you to touch it. He is a real talker and that is one things so special about him. He gets along wonderfully with the other three bassets in the foster home and also the blind poodle and Boston Terrier He is also good around the kitty of the house. However, Norton needs a home without small children. He walks very well on a leash and one of his favorite things to do is take a car ride. He is social to all he meets along the way if you take him to the local pet store or to the vet. If you come up on him too fast or speak loud he might be afraid. Due to his fear issues when he is being examined by the vet it is best for him to wear their muzzle. He is housetrained and will cry at the door to go out. He is a wonderful boy and very playful. He is submissive to other dogs. His family only has one female basset and he gets along well with both the two boys and the one girl. To understand the breed is so important when it comes to Norton, he is pure basset. He has never torn up anything in his foster home and is a gentleman when it comes to his food. He dances for his food - so cute. He needs a strong family that will help him remember the things he has learned at his foster home. Norton has some issues with certain things and his foster mom can explain all this better if you ever want to call her or come visit Norton. He has a hard time if anyone stands over him or gets into his face unless he knows you very well. He also has a hard time with anyone that speaks stern to him or uses a voice that makes him afraid. His foster mom feels that sometime in his life someone has been mean to him and so due to his fear of certain situations he is taking medication that he needs to take for the rest of his life. Once he goes to sleep it is better to not bother him, or if you must wake him to do it in a very gentle way. He needs a family that will understand his fear issues and be able to accept him for the wonderful basset boy he is. Watch my video!

Norton is also part of the Debbie's Dawgs Senior Partner Program.

Vera is newer to BHRG. She had been dumped at a north Georgia shelter when her family had a "change of lifestyle". This tri-colored girl is around 8 years old. She is healthy, spayed, and up-to-date on shots. Vera is ready to find a forever family.
