A Greyt Ending!

Posted by by Korryn Mozisek on 17th Nov 2014

It is difficult to express the excitement I had in September, 2009. My partner, Kevin, and I had just been approved to adopt a retired racing greyhound and were told that we could come meet 2 greyhounds up for adoption through Steel City Greyhound that were also cat safe. We arranged a time to come meet the two adoptable greyhounds and I experienced love at first sight!

A member of the kennel staff brought out Nina. She was a happy 3 and 1/2 year old retiree that couldn't wait to snuggle. I bent down to greet Nina and she nearly knocked me over by snuggling her head into my chest. I just knew she was the perfect hound for us! Nina has been the perfect first greyhound. Because of her ultra-friendly personality, she had us making friends with everyone and giving us the opportunity to talk about greyhounds and rescue.

With all of our random moments with people asking about greyhounds, Kevin and I became dedicated volunteers for the organization. Nina got us involved and we absolutely love her for it because Steel City Greyhounds has become a BIG part of our life in Pittsburgh. Nina even helped convince us to adopt her a sister; she even picked a greyt sibling in Sophie.

So 5 years later, Nina is loving life as a cuddling, couch/bed hogging retiree. With each day she and Sophie put a smile on our faces and we are reminded that we are the lucky ones.
